Professor Zhihui Dong is Chief Physician, Vascular Surgeon and Executive Deputy Director of the Vascular Surgery Department at Zhongshan Hospital. Professor Dong obtained an M.D. and a Ph.D. in Vascular Surgery from Fudan University in 2006.

His clinical expertise encompasses a wide range of vascular conditions, including aortic dissection, abdominal aortic aneurysm, ischemic diabetic foot, carotid artery stenosis, and lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans. Throughout his career, Professor Dong has led more than 10 national and provincial-level scientific research projects, significantly contributing to advancements in vascular medicine.

Professor Dong has an extensive publication with over 100 papers published in SCI-indexed and leading Chinese journals. He is the chief editor and deputy editor of eight monographs and has contributed to the editing of twelve additional vascular-related publications. His research has yielded numerous innovations, including the development of new drugs and medical devices, resulting in multiple awards such as the First Prize of the Fujian Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, the Huaxia Medical Science and Technology Progress Award, the Shanghai Medical Science and Technology Awards, the Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award, and a total of 18 patents.

In recognition of his expertise and leadership, Professor Dong holds key roles in various academic and professional societies. He is the Chief Scientist of a National Science and Technology Major Project, an Outstanding Academic Leader, and Discipline Leader within Shanghai’s healthcare system. He is Vice President of the Vascular Surgery Branch of the China-Japan Medical Science and Technology Exchange Association, Vice President and Secretary General of the Chinese Chapter of the International Union of Angiology (IUA), and Deputy Chair of the IUA’s Expert Committee on Thoracic Aortic Disease.

His other prominent positions are Director of the Shanghai Clinical Quality Control Center for Vascular Surgery, Vice Chair of the Vascular Surgery Branch of the Shanghai Medical Association, Chair of the Diabetic Foot Working Group of the Shanghai Medical Doctor Association, and Secretary of the Thoracic Aortic Group within the Vascular Surgery Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association. He also serves as Vice President of the Diabetes and Foot Disease Branch of the China Healthcare International Exchange Promotion Association.

 

Professor Dong’s influential research includes notable publications such as studies on the prognostic implications of acute type B intramural hematoma, lymphangiogenesis in salt-sensitive hypertension, outcomes of endovascular therapy for aortic dissection, and long-term results of thoracic endovascular aortic repair.
