Yuta Abe

Professor Yuta Abe is a distinguished surgeon, innovator, researcher, and educator specializing in hepatobiliary pancreatic surgery and liver transplantation in Japan. He is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at Keio University School of Medicine, and Board-Certified Expert Surgeon in the Hepatobiliary-Pancreatic Field, accredited by the Japanese Society of HBP Surgery.
 

Professor Abe completed his medical degree at the Keio University School of Medicine in 1998. He has obtained multiple certifications, including Board Certification in Surgery, Gastroenterological Surgery, and as an expert surgeon in the hepatobiliary-pancreatic field. He is also certified in endoscopic surgical skills for laparoscopic hepatectomy and holds a qualification as a general clinical oncologist.
 

In the last decade, Professor Abe performed more than 600 laparoscopic liver resections, over 200 robotic liver resections, 350 radical liver resections for perihilar cholangiocarcinoma, and approximately 200 living donor liver transplantations.
 

Professor Abe’s excellence has been recognized through numerous awards, including the Best Video Award at the 17th Annual Meeting of the Endoscopic Liver Surgery Study Group (2023), the EAES Best Video Award (2018), and the Carl Storz Award from the Japanese Society of Endoscopic Surgery (2014). He was also honoured as the Best Chief Resident in 2006.
 

Professor Abe has been invited speaker at many prominent international conferences, delivering lectures on advanced laparoscopic and robotic liver surgeries, navigation techniques, and innovative surgical procedures. His presentations have taken place at the World Congress of the International Association of Surgeons, Gastroenterologists and Oncologists, the EAES Congress, and the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver, among others.
 

Professor Abe has co-authored over 150 articles in peer-reviewed publications. Notable among these are articles on 3D MRI evaluation of cholangiocarcinoma, robotic liver parenchyma transection techniques, AI-assisted navigation in hepatectomy, and minimally invasive approaches for complex liver surgeries.
