Professor Yuko Kitagawa is currently Professor and Chairman of Department of Surgery at Keio University School of Medicine. He is also Executive Vice President of the Keio University.

​

Professor Kitagawa has held pivotal leadership roles in numerous organizations including Chair of the Japan Esophageal Oncology Group from 2012 to 2023, President of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterological Surgery from 2019 to 2023, and Society President of the Japan Society of Clinical Oncology from 2015 to 2019. Professor Kitagawa has been President of the Japan Society for Endoscopic Surgery since 2023.

As a surgical oncologist specializing in gastrointestinal cancers, Professor Kitagawa has published 1,184 articles in English peer-reviewed journals. He has also organized global conferences, including the 16th Congress of the International Society for Diseases of the Esophagus in Vienna in 2018 and the 15th International Gastric Cancer Congress in Yokohama in 2023.​​​
