Professor Michael Hsin is Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery, School of Clinical Medicine, LKS Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong and Honorary Consultant in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Queen Mary Hospital. He is also Chairman of the Thoracic Surgery Division at The University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital.

Professor Hsin graduated from the University of Cambridge and its School of Clinical Medicine, where he earned his MBBChir and later his Doctor of Medicine (MD). He completed his cardiothoracic surgery training at prestigious London institutions, including the Royal Brompton, St Bartholomew’s, and London Chest Hospitals, and pursued advanced lung transplant training and research at Toronto General Hospital in Canada. Professor Hsin is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine.

Professor Hsin’s clinical and research expertise focuses on minimally invasive thoracic surgery, metabolomics in lung transplantation, and ex vivo lung perfusion. He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and is an Associate Editor for Respirology Case Reports and Surgical Practice. In recognition of his scholarly contributions, he received the Faculty Outstanding Research Output Award from the LKS Faculty of Medicine at The University of Hong Kong in 2024.
