Professor Hugo Pinto Marques is a specialist in the field of hepatobiliary pancreatic surgery and transplantation. He is currently Full Professor of Surgery at NOVA Medical School and Senior Researcher at the Comprehensive Health Research Center, Lisbon.

Professor Marques holds key leadership positions in various international organizations, including Chairman of the Department of General Surgery and Transplantation at Unidade Local de Saúde de S. José and the Hepato-Biliary-Pancreatic and Transplantation Centre in Lisbon, President-elect of the Society of Medical Sciences of Lisbon and his membership in the National Academy of Medicine of Portugal, Secretary General of Les Compagnons Hépato-Biliaires and the European Surgical Association. Professor Marques is also an active member of the International Society of Liver Surgeons, Portuguese representative of the International Laparoscopic Liver Society, and Coordinator of the HPB Chapter of the Portuguese Society of Surgery.​
