Professor Lijie Tan is Senior Consultant and Professor of Surgery at Zhong Shan Hospital, Shanghai Medical School of Fudan University in Shanghai. He is Chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery and the Director of the Center for Esophageal Cancer in the same institution.

An internationally recognized leader in thoracic surgery, Professor Tan possesses extraordinary expertise in minimally invasive techniques. His clinical experience encompasses over 5,000 cases of minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE) for esophageal cancer and over 6,000 uniportal lung procedures, including lobectomies, segmentectomies, and sleeve resections for lung cancer.

Professor Tan is an active clinical and translational researcher. He has led several national clinical trials and is principal investigator for his centre on numerous international trials focused on esophageal and lung cancers. His contributions include more than 200 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals such as Nature Medicine, Annals of Oncology, JAMA Surgery, Annals of Surgery, and the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. He also authored multiple book chapters in both Chinese and English.

He is Fellow and active member of numerous international medical societies, including the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS). In recognition of his contributions to the field, Professor Tan has been the recipient of several awards from the local government.
