Professor Joon-Bum Kim is Professor of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at Asan Medical Center, Seoul, South Korea. Graduating in 2001 from Yonsei University College of Medicine, Professor Kim completed his cardiothoracic surgery residency in 2006 and obtained his Fellowship in 2011 at Asan Medical Center.


Professor Kim’s academic distinction was recognized in 2014 when he was awarded the prestigious Evert A. Graham Memorial Traveling Fellowship by the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS), leading to a year of advanced training at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School. Further enhancing his expertise in translational research, Professor Kim spent 2023-2024 at the Stanford University as a Translational Surgeon Scientist Visiting Professor.


Professor Kim specializes in open aortic repair, valve-sparing root surgery, and minimally invasive cardiovascular procedures, combining technical mastery with innovative surgical approaches. He has also published over 300 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
