Dr. Howard Chan obtained his medical degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2001. Following his internship, he began his career at Queen Elizabeth Hospital as a resident and commenced his formal cardiothoracic surgical training there in 2005. He obtained his Fellowships from the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in 2010.

Dr. Chan currently is Chief of Service and Consultant in the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Dr. Chan has special interests in minimally invasive cardiac surgery, mitral valve repair, cardiac tumours, complex aortic surgery, and TEVAR. He has performed over 3,000 open heart surgeries, with more than 15% of these procedures conducted using an endoscopic approach.​​
